Our projects at Coolblack

We develop apps for Apple devices and research quantum simulation on our PC. Explore our released projects, measurements and next goals.

Milestones since our founding

Our milestones

The timeline lists our releases, research results and grants by date.

  1. Coolblack GmbH

    Founded on 9 January.

The plan: AI automation where it genuinely helps. Understand first, then automate. Device-first computing, clear technology and personal contact.

  2. Funding

    Awarded the Gründungsstipendium.NRW start-up grant

Awarded Gründungsstipendium.NRW support for our founding and the Coolblack Voice Agent.

  3. Coolblack Voice Agent

    The phone agent takes shape.

Development begins on an AI phone agent for iPhone, iPad and Mac: answering calls, understanding requests, preparing appointments and keeping notes.

  4. Tolki

The offline translator reaches the App Store.

Tolki translates 19 languages entirely on iPhone: speech recognition, translation and speech output without internet or cloud services. Now at version 1.4.

  5. Coolblack

    EU word mark registered.

Coolblack has been protected as an EU word mark since 24 May 2026 (EUIPO 019314176).

  6. Coolblack Voice Agent

    On the App Store.

On the App Store since 9 June 2026. In the Local tier, the language model, voice and knowledge base run entirely on the device. No server or subscription.

  7. Many smaller projects

Boti, BootAIS, Wizard Scorer, Abyss, Eclipse.

Boti brings AI chat and an app workshop to iPhone. BootAIS shows live boats on your map. Wizard Scorer keeps card-game scores, alongside our games Abyss and Eclipse.

  8. Erledigo

The agent that makes calls for you reaches the App Store.

Appointments, restaurant tables or passing on a message: your agent calls with a natural voice. Version 1.1 since 8 September.

  9. forge-cmix v2 · Data compression

Losslessly compressed 1,000 MB to 109.54 MB

We compressed a Wikipedia dataset from 1,000 MB to 109.54 MB and checked its restoration byte for byte. The result uses about 89 percent less space than the original and is 1.13 percent smaller than the historical 2024 fx2-cmix reference. We submitted it to the Hutter Prize on 29 August. A submission is not an award.

    Pack smaller. Lose nothing.

Imagine fitting the contents of a large box into a smaller one. Unpacking restores everything unchanged. Lossless compression does something similar with data.

    1 · The original file

    1,000 MB

We start with 1,000 MB of text. The full bar shows the original file's storage size.

This visualises a measured result; it does not run a new compression job. Bar length represents file size.

Why is this useful? Smaller files need less storage. Here we investigate how far a fixed text can be compressed without losing anything, even if the computation takes substantial time.

    Exact figures, foundations & limitations

    Original enwik9 file
    1,000,000,000 Bytes
    2024 fx2-cmix reference
    110,793,128 Bytes
    Self-extracting archive
    109,079,343 Bytes
    Kompressionsprogramm
    461,842 Bytes
    Our total package (S20/v2)
    109,541,185 Bytes
    Additional saving against the reference
    1,251,943 Bytes

Here, 1 MB means 1,000,000 bytes. The comparison total includes the compressor and self-extracting archive, not every release file. enwik9 is the fixed Wikipedia text dataset used in this experiment.

Our project work: Developing the candidate, improving packaging and execution, verifying full restoration and creating an auditable submission package.

The foundation: Established cmix/fx-cmix methods, notably Kaido Orav's fx2-cmix and Ibrahim Marcouch's prior work integrated into cmix-lex. The overall result also relies on those contributions; not all improvement over the reference comes solely from our new code.

These figures apply to this dataset and candidate, not arbitrary files. The historical reference is not a current leaderboard. Submitted does not mean awarded: we claim neither a prize win nor a current world record.

  10. MailFundus Archiv · Mac

MailFundus Archiv is in the App Store.

MailFundus archives emails and makes them searchable. Move messages out of your inbox and find them later in the archive. We released the Mac app on the App Store on 9 September. Our Hutter compression project is separate research; its result is not a compression promise for email archives.

  11. Fipsta · iPhone and iPad

Fipsta is in the App Store.

Use Fipsta to turn recordings and photos into short videos that share your ideas. We released the app on the App Store on 13 September and updated it to version 1.1.1 on 20 September. The App Store page lists current requirements and prices.

  12. Quantum Lab · research and website

Quantum Lab: from the combination lock to 35 qubits.

Try quantum programs in the lab without signing up. Our i9 runs the six-digit combination lock; the RTX 3090 simulates seven digits with 24 search qubits and up to 10,000,000 codes. The treasure hunt supports up to 12 search qubits and 4,096 hiding places. On 20 September, we calculated a full 35-qubit circuit with 34,359,738,368 complex amplitudes in double precision. We processed its 512 GiB state in SSD blocks. Qiskit Aer reached 31 qubits in our in-memory comparison at the time; this is not a speed comparison. In a separate test with 780 allowed states, our code was about nine times faster than the established reference software. That advantage applies to this test case. In the diamond lab, you control a browser model of two spin states at a nitrogen-vacancy centre. We checked it against an independent Lindblad calculation. The links provide measurements and test conditions. We claim neither a world record nor quantum advantage.

Komprimierung
MailFundus Archiv

Pack smaller. Lose nothing.

Practical lessons from compression: 19.3 GB of mail becomes an 8.6 GB archive; plain text is seven times smaller. Each message is checked byte for byte. Searches took 2 to 60 milliseconds in a real archive of 76,104 messages.

The product uses established compression methods, measured separately for text and attachments. The competition compressor itself would be too slow for this task.

Coolblack Voice Agent

A phone agent without a server.

In the Local tier, the language model, voice and knowledge base run on iPhone, iPad or Mac. Answer calls, understand requests, prepare appointments and note callbacks. No server or subscription; units instead of a contract.

Supported by Gründungsstipendium.NRW. Standard and Premium tiers use an EU data centre, explicitly stated for each agent.

AI that calls for you
Erledigo

Appointments, tables, messages.

Tell your agent what to do in natural speech. It finds the number, calls, works within your instructions and adds confirmed appointments to your calendar. Choose from 13 voices.

No audio recordings, only a transcript. Servers in Germany, speech AI in an EU data centre. Erledigo does not call emergency or expensive premium-rate numbers.

AI without internet
Tolki

Translate where there is no signal.

Tolki translates between 19 languages fully offline. Speech recognition, translation and speech output run on iPhone. Use the camera for signs and menus, table mode for conversations or account-free chat between two iPhones. On the App Store, version 1.4.

No cloud, server or data transfer. English and your home language are free; additional languages are a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

What connects it all

How we develop the quantum lab

Compute where the data is.

On the device, in your own archive or on our i9. Nothing goes to a third-party cloud without a reason.

Measure instead of promising.

Bytes, milliseconds and success rates. We distinguish measured results from calculations and future goals.

State the limits clearly.

Submitted does not mean awarded. A simulator is not quantum hardware. We say what is not available yet.

In the quantum lab, we compare our i9 calculations with independent references. We aim to simulate larger circuits using less time and memory. Our published measurements show which tasks benefit.
